- The Ord River: Part 1
-
|
The Ord Dam at Lake Argyle is situated
67 kilometres from Kununurra. The rugged scenery
of the Carr Boyd Range around Lake Agyle, the
artificial lake formed after the Ord River Dam
was built (completed in 1972), is most
impressive. The much sought after baramundi fish
is farmed in the lake and processed at Lake
Argyle Village close to the dam.
|
Lake Argyle is virtually an inland sea
covering an area of about 700 square kilometres.
The volume of water it contains is nine times
larger than that of Sydney
Harbour.
|

Below the dam wall the boat awaits to
take tourists along the Ord River through the
Carlton Gorge to Kununurra.

A plant which grows in profusion around
the spillway but is not native to the
area.
