THE NORTH-WEST CORNER of Montana contains many mountain ranges and a number of lakes, the largest of the latter being Flathead Lake just south of Kalispell. Viewed from Highway 93 the lake is backed by the Mission and Swan Ranges and, behind them, the Flahead Range; all form part of the Rocky Mountains system.

The small town of Polson is situated at the lower end of the lake...

...and other small comunities such as Big Arm, Elmo and Dayton may be found on the lake's western shore.
