BIG SUR
The land south of Monterey was
called 'the big country to the south' by Spanish
colonists in the 18th century. Spectacular coastal
scenery can be viewed from the 100 mile coast
road.

COLOMA
Gold was discovered here in
January1848, an event leading to the Gold Rush and
the arrival in California of thousands of fortune
seekers.

CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL
A large steel and glass structure
that can house a congregation of 3000 and situated on
the outskirts of Los Angeles close to
Disneyland.

DEATH VALLEY
A trough in the earth's crust,
bounded by tall mountains, that reaches the lowest
point in the western hemisphere. This inhospitable
country produces the highest mean temperature in the
world.

DESERT CENTER
The Desert Training Center was
used by General George Patton during World War II for
military exercises.

DISNEYLAND
The well known and loved Walt
Disney creation at Anaheim, California. Pictures of
the original Disneyland before the development of the
new adventure playground.

HOLLYWOOD
Centred around the Chinese Theatre
with details of film stars and musicians including
Clark Gable and Glenn Miller.

JAMESTOWN
A major gold mining town situated
on the historic Sierra Railroad.

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
Park created to preserve the
unusual Joshua tree in its natural environment.
Includes the large Cholla Cactus Garden.

LAKE TAHOE
Reputed to be the most beautiful
lake in California and situated in the High Sierras
on the border with Nevada.

LOS ANGELES
Fisherman's Village and Venice

MONTEREY
Major town south of San Francisco
served as the capital of California until 1848. Now a
major fishing port and tourist venue.

The famous Cunard and White Star
liner launched in 1934 now in permanent captivity at

SAN FRANCISCO
Situated on over forty hills
touring this famous city on foot requires physical
stamina. Sites visited here include the Golden Gate
Bridge, Twin Peaks, Grace Cathedral and Fisherman's
Wharf.

SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK
Situated in the High Sierras this
national park features many groves of the living
giant sequoia tree.

SONOMA
The fertile Sonoma Valley situated
to the north of San Francisco runs parallel to the
Napa Valley and, like its famous neighbour, is host
to many premium wine producers.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
Over a thousand square miles of
mountain terrain. The Yosemite Falls are the highest
in North America
